Fall is (finally) Here

Fall is in the air!

Can you feel it? Taste it? Hear it? See it?

As schools start again and schedules once again become raging beasts to be tackled, this season is an excellent time to introduce some grounding practices into your routine using the five senses. These practices are fun to do with kids, and will help the whole family feel more relaxed, present, and compassionate with one another.

  1. Take your shoes off. Walk in the grass, the rain puddles, the mud, the creek bed. Get your feet dirty and let it feel good. Repeat more days just like this. They are prescriptions for the soul.

  2. Talk a walk. Outside in nature, or the nature of your neighborhood. Don’t worry about your steps or closing the circles on your watch. And don’t distract yourself by listen to anything than what is physically around you right at this moment. What do you notice if you take the time to notice? Notice the smells and sights of Fall.

  3. Spend a few moments every day with yourself, showing yourself compassion through moving your body, speaking positively to yourself, or allowing yourself the time and space you need and deserve so that you can use your energy wisely. Or do all three of them. No one will ever take care of you like you will. Be kind to yourself.

  4. Try blindfolded eating to explore taste more deeply. When you put on the blindfold, you focus solely on the flavors, textures, and smells of your food. It's like a taste adventure in the dark, where each bite reveals a world of sensations. By blocking out sight, your other senses wake up, making food's textures and flavors more vivid.

  5. Listen to the guided meditation below that takes you on a walk through a beautiful forest in the Fall. Hear the leaves crunch beneath your feet, and visualize yourself relaxing and feeling the sweet calm that autumn ushers in.
